Warwick Streamer Stage I Bass Guitar

My Rating:  Excellent

Warwick WebsiteI love the sound of this bass. The body is all rounded and curvy which gives the instrument an organic feminine feel. It is surprisingly light partly because the body is smaller than usual. I could swear that there are hollow areas inside the body, but I've never able to validate that. Thanks to a well placed top horn the neck does not dive despite the smallish body.

undefinedThe perfectly smooth neck to body joint and the narrow J-style neck combine to create a very fast silky feel. The neck through body design is solid and has a beautiful finish. The hardware has a German sensibility, meaning practical and chunky (the Warwick is manufactured in Markneukirchen). The electronics are quiet and well thought out.

This bass has a fat punchy tone that sounds just as good passive as active. The bridge pickup soloed is very bright and a little thin but not at all brittle. The neck pickup is round and full. My favorite is blending both pickups which yields a complex slightly squashed sound with a scooped middle that's perfect for slap.

I know the Warwick Thumb is all the rage right now, but I prefer the Streamer for a better behaved, more balanced sound. Also the finish does not need the regular waxing that the Thumb does.

The Streamer lists for $4,000 which makes it one of the most expensive basses you can buy. The good news is that Warwicks are not well known in the USA so you can get some great deals. I bought a mint condition used Streamer with hardshell case on eBay for $1060.
